"Doyle on guitar has risen to a level occupied by him alone. No one in Irish traditional music is a better guitarist than him right now (...) In my Wall Street Journal article on him this past March, I described John as one of the world’s best acoustic guitarists. I now think that may be an understatement (...) What are they putting in the potable water where John resides that has made him so mind-vaultingly good?"
Earle Hitchner, The Wall Street Journal
"A complete rhythm section all on his own"
Chicago Tribune
"Few rhythm guitarists demand the spotlight, but Doyle’s superpowered accompaniment in trad-music settings is a marvel."
Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers, Acoustic Guitar Magazine
"More talent than anybody deserves to have all to themselves"
Philadelphia News
"Whether playing in a band, as an accompanist, or as a solo performer, John Doyle has a magical touch, always providing exactly what is needed: the right progression, a nimble melody, a delicate harmony line; a dream guitarist."
Irish Edition
"John Doyle is as much a story teller as a musician, and he’s masterful at both (...) Few singer/songwriters are as adept as John Doyle when it comes to developing the inveterate themes of Irish Traditional music. Doyle takes these themes; war, oppression, love and emigration, and sets compelling narratives to engaging arrangements."
Neil McFadyen, Folk Radio UK
"His lyrics unfold like short stories, with each verse moving the narrative forward with a level of detail you just don’t encounter in typical rock or pop music, and his exquisite rhymes are as carefully woven as the strands of a Celtic knot."
Andy Ellis, PREMIERGuitar
